Dance Sessions

Hi! Glad to know you are interested in getting started!

I started my professional training journey in dance over a decade ago. Trained in various styles, I have been teaching Dancehall since 2018 (You can read more on my training background in the about me section.)

Dancehall is a music and dance genre from Jamaica. It is an offshoot of reggae that saw its mainstream success in Jamaica in the 1980s, gaining worldwide popularity by the 2000s.

Born in the ghettos of Kingston, there is a spiritual element that is a part of this dance experience. It allows the dancer to experience the vibe that goes beyond a display of enjoyment.

From Sean Paul to Raghav's Teri Batoon it’s all dancehall music!

What to expect from the classes?

We start with a warmup, gradually conditioning and preparing one’s body for the class.

In the initial classes, focus is on getting comfortable with moving and learning basic grooves and foundations of dancehall.

In the last few classes I will be teaching a choreography based on the foundations we worked upon.

Currently I am taking one on one online sessions. If you’re interested, then get in touch and let’s dancehall!

“ My journey with Shreya and Dancehall started during the lockdown with online sessions.. I needed a space that would allow me to get out of my head and really connect with my body. I love dancing, but was under confident, and Shreya really shook that off for me. Apart from learning dancehall dancing and some excellent choreographies every month, I learned to be free and expressive with my body. This was because Shreya encouraged me to imagine myself as a performer while dancing and really loosen up. I will always be grateful for these classes, for how they enabled me to articulate movement through a genre of music and dance I have always been fascinated by. Can’t wait to dance together in person.”
